Tomer Broude completed his studies in Law and International Relations (Magna Cum Laude) at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1996. After articling at the Office of the Legal Adviser of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and pursuing private legal practice at a leading Jerusalem law firm for five years (focusing on administrative, corporate and commercial law and litigation, with an emphasis on international law, antitrust, transactions and litigation) he returned to academic activity in 2001 and completed graduate studies at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, earning his SJD (having transferred directly from the LLM programme) in 2004. He was appointed Lecturer at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Faculty of Law and Department of International Relations in July 2004, and promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2007.
 
Tomer's expertise is in international trade regulation in general and World Trade Organization law in particular, within the framework of International Public Law and International Relations theory. He is especially interested in international dispute settlement, international development and the interactions of trade law with intellectual property, antitrust and human rights. His teaching experience includes related courses at the Faculties of Law at the University of Toronto, Georgetown University Law Center, Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, Tel Aviv University and the Academic Studies Division of the College of Management in Rishon Le Zion. He has held an advisory affiliation with ILEAP (International Lawyers and Economists Against Poverty), a non-governmental organization providing developing countries with professional advice in the context of international trade negotiations, and is currently a member of the International Law Association Committee on the International Law of Sustainable Development. During 2007-2009 he served as the co-chair of the American Society of International Law's International Economic Law Interest Group (with Amy Porges). He is one of the founders of the Society of International Economic Law (SIEL) and serves on its Executive Council.   
 
Tomer's academic awards include the Simon and Ethel Flegg Scholarship for Outstanding Young Scholars (2005-2007); a Faculty Research Award from the Government of Canada (2005); the Alan Marks Medal and Award for Best Graduate Thesis, University of Toronto, Faculty of Law (2004); a post-doctoral grant from the Cegla Center for Interdisciplinary Research of the Law, Tel Aviv University (2004); the Ontario Graduate Scholarship, (2003-2004 and 2002-2003); the WCG Howland Fellowship (2001-2002); a University of Toronto Fellowship (2001-2002 and 2002-2003); and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Research Grants, (1997 and 1998). He is a member of the Israel Bar (May, 1997) and various professional and academic associations. His publications include a book on judicial-political relations in the governance structure of the WTO, a critique of the legitimacy of the Wall Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice, and an article on the Trade-Culture debate as reflected by the issue of Geographical Indications for food and wine products.
