פרופ׳ יובל שני הנו ראש הקתדרה למשפט בינלאומי פומבי ע״ש הרש לאוטרפכט ודיקן לשעבר של הפקולטה למשפטים באוניברסיטה העברית. הוא מכהן גם כעמית בכיר במכון הישראלי לדמוקרטיה, כפרופ׳ אורח במרכז ללימודים משפטיים טרנס-לאומיים בלונדון וכעמית מחקר במכון לאתיקה ובינה מלאכותית באוקספורד. בין השנים 2013-2020 שני כיהן כחבר בועדה האו״ם לזכויות האדם (בין השנים 2018-2019 הוא שימש כיו״ר הועדה).
