Israel Gilead (LL.B.; B.A. [economics]; LL.D.) is a Bora Laskin Professor of law since 1998. He served as The Law Faculty's Dean during the years 1999-2002 (and formerly as Vice Dean during the years 1993-1966). His major field of interest is Tort law on which he recently (2012) published a comprehensive book (other fields are Limitation of Civil Actions, Economic Analysis of Law, and Bills and Notes). Professor Gilead is a member of the European Group on Tort Law (EGTL), of the European Center of Tort and Insurance Law (ECTIL) and of the American Law Institute (ALI). As a member of the Israeli Codification Committee and its sub-committees on Tort law and Limitation of Actions law he has drafted parts of the proposed new Civil Code. Some of his proposals have already been enacted. He also served as a member of public committees on tort issues established by the government and the Minister of justice. Prof Gilead chaired the Admission Policy Committee of Israel's Universities and heads the Executive Committee of the National Institute for Testing & Evaluation (NITE) which is in charge on the admission Psychometric tests. Professor Gilead has also served as a director, representing the public, on the boards of directors of Bank  Leumi Le-Israel and Harel Insurance group.
